Synopsis
George and his brother Andrew both joined the AASC in the 2nd Division a Militia which was banned for overseas service and in fact went on to be designated for the defence of Australia. As a consequence of this we have the unusual situation where both brothers enlisted a second time in New Guinea. Whele we have George’s service records we do not for Andrew. The profiles then are factual for George and speculative for Andrew.
1941
- 30 May. Attested at Crows Nest, Qld.
1942
- 4 March. Taken on service of Ammunition Company of 2nd Division. AMM Coy. Stationed at Gaythorne Ordnance Depot in Queensland.
- 9 July. Transferred to the 5th Division Ammunition Company. Note the 5th Divison was
- 24 September. Transferred to 11th Infantry Bde. Ammunition Company
1943
- 21 January. Embarked on the HMAS Katoomba for New Guinea.
- In January 1943, the 5th Div which was dispatched to Milne Bay, New Guinea, to relieve the 11th Division, as a garrison force.
- 23 April. Enlisted in New Britain New Guinea with 27 Coy AASC.
- 9 July. Transferred to 154 General Transport Company at Jacquinot Bay.
- 20-27 November. takes leave in Sydney.
1944
- 2 February. Returns to New Guinea.
- 19 August. Embarks for Brisbane on HMAS Katoomba.
- 11 November. Transferred to 88 General Transport Company
1945
- 20 December. Embarks from Brisbane for New Britain on the SS Taroona.
- 26 December. Transferred to 76 General Transport Company Rambaul.
1946
- 25 January. Embarks fromRambaul to Brisbane
