Synopsis

George and his brother Andrew both joined the AASC in the 2nd Division a Militia which was banned for overseas service and in fact went on to be designated for the defence of Australia. As a consequence of this we have the unusual situation where both brothers enlisted a second time in New Guinea. Whele we have George’s service records we do not for Andrew. The profiles then are factual for George and speculative for Andrew.

  • 4 March. Taken on service of Ammunition Company of 2nd Division. AMM Coy. Stationed at Gaythorne Ordnance Depot in Queensland.
  • 9 July. Transferred to the 5th Division Ammunition Company. Note the 5th Divison was
  • 24 September. Transferred to 11th Infantry Bde. Ammunition Company
1943
  • 21 January. Embarked on the HMAS Katoomba for New Guinea.

  • In January 1943, the 5th Div which was dispatched to Milne Bay, New Guinea, to relieve the 11th Division, as a garrison force.

The King’s Badge was a large silver pin to be worn only on civilian clothing. It was issued by the Australian government to persons who served after World War II was declared, on September 3, 1939, and who were discharged through injury due to war service.
