Obituary
Walker “Bud” Blincoe
Bud Blincoe died Monday, March 27, 2017, in Tacoma. He was 91. Bud grew up in Texas, graduating from Austin high school (class of 1944) and going on to complete one year at the University of Texas before joining the Army Air Force. His service with the USAAF took him from Africa to China. After the war, Bud worked in communications for the State Department rising to the position of Director of Communications for the US Embassy in Bonn, Germany. He married Barbara Lee in 1953; they were blessed with three daughters. Bud earned a Bachelor of Science degree at The American University and started work for AT&T. The family moved to New Jersey where Bud pursued his career at AT&T’s New York headquarters. Bud’s work at AT&T later led him to Seattle, where he retired. Bud married Mary Somerville in 1987 in Seattle, Mary preceded him in death. Bud was a lifelong Democrat and a great admirer of Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Harry Truman. Bud actively supported the University Unitarian Church serving a term as church president. Bud is survived by his sister Marydot Hunzinker, brother James Blincoe, daughters Marian Lee, Janice Lee and Liza Gerry, grandchildren Katherine Gerry, Christine Gerry, Walker Klenk and Joseph Klenk, and step-children Julia V. Douthwaite, John Douthwaite and Charles Douthwaite. Bud expressed particular thanks to Ana Cristina Douthwaite for the care and support she provided near the end of his life. A memorial service will take place at the University Unitarian Church on Saturday, April 22nd at 3:00 pm. Donations in Bud’s memory may be sent to the Group Health Community Foundation or Northwest Harvest.
