  • Leslie enlisted at Cardington where he would have been inducted and provided uniform etc. before some basic training at an RAF station. Records in indicate that he joined after April 1941.

Note: Posted to one of the Recruit Centres for his basic training he would have been; registered and billeted; kitted out; given a haircut;  medical examination and dental check; inoculated against diphtheria, typhoid and smallpox; issued with service documents. In the following weeks, he would have faced a rigorous daily routine of fatigues, inspections, assessments, drills, physical training and lectures on:

After Basic training depending on his skills/education, he would have received specific trade training on a wide range of job roles from driver to aircraft specialist technicians/engineers.

Leslie, as many were, may have been posted to RAF operations overseas alternatively he could have been UK based for the duration of the war.
